Patricia von Ah is an internationally recognised visual media artist, photographer, filmmaker, and researcher. She is the founder of SEETHINK Lab and Zero Baseline of Photography, a public cultural platform mapping verified first photographs across 200 years of photographic history, ahead of the medium's bicentennial in 2027.

Patricia von Ah is an internationally recognised visual media artist, photographer, filmmaker, and researcher. Over three decades of professional practice, she has developed a body of work that spans commercial and fine art photography, documentary film, and interdisciplinary cultural research, always guided by a core question: what do we see, and once we see it, how does it influence us?

Her career spans continents and contexts. Early analogue work was first exhibited at Sotheby's in London and New York (2001). She was selected as one of fourteen of the world's most renowned female fashion and portrait photographers for the Elton John AIDS Foundation charity project 4 INCHES with Jimmy Choo & Cartier (2005). Her celebrity portraits, including Yoko Ono, Dennis Hopper, and John Travolta, and commissions for Fondation Beyeler, Germany’s Next Topmodel, and Swiss Wine demonstrate both her technical range and her ability to forge a genuine connection with her subjects. Her practice moves between commercial and creative contexts, driven by a deep curiosity about the world around us.

Patricia holds a Bachelor's degree from ArtCenter College of Design (1987-1990) and a Master of Arts in Visual Communication and Iconic Research from the University of Art and Design Basel FHNW (2019-2021). It was during her master's thesis that she identified a critical gap: no single, verified reference archive existed for photography's foundational images, across either scientific or artistic domains. This discovery became the seed of Zero Baseline of Photography and the interdisciplinary research initiative SEETHINK Lab.

As a lecturer at (Gymnasium Leonhard Basel, Architekturforum Zurich, Zurich University of the Arts, Schule für Gestaltung Bern und Biel, Photoforum Pasquart, MUS-E Schweiz - Die Künste in der Schule, Kanton Bern), workshop leader and active member of the cultural sector, Patricia develops curricula that unite conceptual inquiry with hands-on experimentation. She serves on the board of Photoforum since 2024, and is a member of Spectrum, Photography in Switzerland since 2023. Her work consistently integrates analogue and digital formats, sustainable photographic practices, critical thinking, and a commitment to making photographic knowledge accessible and meaningful for generations of today and tomorrow.
